Roy Orbison gives her a run for her money as far as Blue Bayou.

Side Two of The Cars’ debut is one of the best sides in album history. Every song is great and it’s a perfect progression from one song to the other.

Yup! Gotta be one of the greatest songs from one of the greatest groups. Going back a little further, with no particular connection, Little Anthony and the Imperials. I’m on the outside looking in.

No question about Roy Orbison’s talent! ... but for a cover? ... Ronstadt did a mighty fine job.

I was taking about The Who with some friends tonight. I saw them three times and they were the best concerts I ever saw. As for song lyrics, how about the entirety of Quadrophenia? To this day, it’s the best album ever. I like it because I lived it.

I only come out when I drink my gin.

I think “The Who Sell Out” was the best album of 1967. Yes, better than that OTHER album that came out in 1967.

The first time that I heard The Moody Blues, I was on the LPD USS Coronado, out in the Atlantic, about two days out of returning to Norfolk on my Youngster Cruise in 1973.

The Captain had given the crew permission to bring a turntable, receiver, and about a half-dozen Pioneer speakers out onto the helicopter flight deck after dark to play music. I was laying flat on my back, no lights around or in sight, only the running lights of the ship. The flight deck was almost pitch black, and I just was laying there, looking up at the biggest splash of stars that I had ever seen in my life.

Then one of the crewmen starting playing his collection of Moody Blues albums .. Days of Future Past, On the Threshold of a Dream, To Our Children's Children's Children, A Question of Balance, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, and The Seventh Sojourn. One after another, playing out into the blackness of the Atlantic, while I stared up at the Milky Way galaxy.

Needless to say, after that exposure, I was hooked and have remained so for the rest of my life ...

Yup. I know we have discussed this in the past, but the band belong in the Hall of Fame. They managed to have radio hits without compromising their integrity. It was tough to follow up on the artsy Heartbeat City as they generally shunned the spotlight. The last CD was released 30 years ago(one that I enjoyed, too, despite the bargain bin criticism). That makes me feel really old. :-)
