A mystifying video of what looks like a fireball traversing the Tasmanian sky got UFO believers excited, and they weren't swayed by the federal government's explanation.
The federal air navigation services provider Airservices Australia told ABC the fascinating display was simply an aircraft 'as it passed over Australian airspace.'

The video, uploaded by a southeastern Tasmania resident to Facebook on Tuesday, shows a light object travelling across clear morning sky.
As the camera zooms in, the object appears to be ablaze, leaving a trail of orange that splits into two tails.
Experts said the contrails created by the aircraft exhaust were backlit by the sunrise, creating the fiery effect.

That is obviously a con trail.
I’ve been fascinated by con trails ever since I was a kid in eastern Washington state and I’d watch the B-36’s fly over at high altitude. BTW, when they didn’t produce con trails they looked like little silver crosses in the sky due to the shape and location of the wing.
I was singing the MST3K song in my head as I wrote it! :)
Let me add, though, that whatever is causing the con trail looks “really odd”, as the only comment on the video says.
I was there the following day - watching Navy choppers dropping sonobuoys into the area. Destroyers transiting in grid search patterns - because a commercial aircraft passed overhead the night before?
It was definitely a con trail. However, the source of the con trail did not look like a normal airplane. It seemed to be coming from the front, rather than the back, and it blossomed more than most do in such a short distance. However, I used the word “most”, not “all”.
I believe it why else would didgeridoo exist. I serves no ueseful purpose other than making a strange alien noise

I gotta say that this video really does look weird, though. It’s definitely something flying, and leaving a con trail. But the big trail is really short and only a narrow one remains. And it is coming from the FRONT.
Meanwhile, the object itself looks like no airplane I’ve ever seen. Either this is a hoax video or it is truly something weird.
No worries! From pictures/descriptions of the snakes, sharks, insects and other weird & wild things in Australia (even shellfish & plants!) — the aliens don’t stand a chance!
