What if the guy himself is gay too? It's not unheard of for gays to use "slurs" against other gays when they're mad. It's also not unusual for blacks to use racial slurs against each other in the heat of the moment.
Is is still a "hate crime" if he's gay? What if he's bisexual... does it get downgraded to a "semi-hate crime"?
