Are they good eatin’?
If it didn’t cost so much for the trip, I’d love to head down there and fill my freezer.

Several co-workers travel To Texas to hunt pig. They get shoulder, thighs, butt, and backstrap. No fat bacon bellies. I think most of it is best ground up into sausage or mixed with beef.

Ten years ago, they paid money to hunt on people’s land. Now they get free access.

If it’s a piglet under 50 pounds, not bad. Otherwise they are gamey (may depend on how one dresses the carcass).
Now some hunters do trap them, finish them on corn feed to get the gaminess out, then slaughter them. Just one thing, domestic hogs can be dangerous enough, wild boars are another matter. And then there is probably no chance of cleaning up something as big as Hogzilla with corn feed, too far gone.

Don’t kill the biggest hogs for eating. The males are too gamey. The best are about 100 to 150 pounds. It helps if they are not chased or riled before being killed.

Wild hog tastes much better than store bought pork but be sure it is cooked done. Fried or baked pork chops, smoked shoulders and hams, and great sausage, but i’ve never had bacon. I don’t think wild hogs have much bacon.

Good luck!
