We are at the threshhold of appointing a Judge to the Supreme Court who will replace the late Justice Scalia. This will give the court, once again, a 5-4 conservative advantage.
It isn’t a conservative advantage that we want.
We want a Constitutional advantage.
Don’t get too excited yet. A few (and it doesn’t take many in the Supreme Court) supposed “rock-ribbed conservatives” appointed by Republican presidents have jumped the shark to vote with the Libs. If Trump puts through two solid appointees (and they stay that way) during his term, America would owe him a great debt.
Isn’t the main requirement of being a liberal is take actions that give the appearance of being concerned for others, regardless of whether it works or not, just as long as it doesn’t significantly impact yourself?
Why would you expect godly behavior(sacrificing)from ungodly people?
That’s not surprising. Folks will cling (bitterly!) if they think someone is trying to prie them away from something.
Good post - I believe the real answer is that the left never expected to lose this election. I firmly believe had Trump not won the nomination (despite their confidence in opposing him and even hoping he did) we would have another President Clinton in the White House and a far different court.
I believe Justice Thomas may retire given past comments giving Trump another chance to find a younger candidate.
There is another bonus for the coming shift on the court - Justice Roberts may be pulled in the right direction - he seems to love consensus on the court and it is a powerful force so a more conservative court will most likely have influence on him.
Wouldn’t that be amazing!
MAGA!
I understand Sotomayor has some health issues that could move her retirement or passing up years. I see her as less bad than Kagan or Ginsburg, but plenty bad enough.
I never go by the age thing. Years ago an opponent of Strom Thurmond focused throughout his campaign on Thurmond’s advanced age vs the opponent who was only 48 at the time (IIRC). The opponent died before the end of the term being contested and ole Strom lived on another few decades.
Three strikes. His mother had immigrated to Britain and then to Canada.
In order to receive subsidized prenatal care she had to give up her British and United States citizenships because Canada did not recognize dual citizenship.
At the time Ted was born neither of his parents were citizens of the United States of America.
Do we have any documentation for that?
This is a VERY excellent point.
Upon further reflection, I wonder if that ship sailed early in the year of the 2014 midterm elections. Breyer and Buzzy should have bailed, and allowed the Democrat Senate to ram two new Justices through.
There was still hope if Zer0'Muslim had advanced two replacements in early 2015 - but they thought their #FakeStreamMedia had the 2016 election locked up.
I begin to appreciate the Miracle that is President Trump even more. 😀
He is a mondialist. You cannot call him a constructionist when he ignores the Constitution on eligibility for the presidency.
I’m even more curious how he acquired US citizenship. We have never seen a CRBA that was filed, which would have been one way if his mother was still a citizen.
If neither parent was a citizen, he has to have been naturalized.
Either way, he is not a natural born citizen and is ineligible and is not a strict Constitutionalist.
We have know where Ted was born, what the citizenship requirements in Canada were, what was required for subsidized care, where Ted’s mom worked which gives us an estimate of how much she was making...
...and we have Ted unable to produce a consular certificate of birth abroad which would prove that he had been extended citizenship at birth.
Why would Ted not produce that with great pride...being supposedly a constitutional originalist...if one existed?
Ted Cruz is a natural born citizen in the same way that Elisabeth Warren is a Cherokee princess.
Everyone on FR that argues that anyone “born a citizen” like Ted Cruz is eligible is also making Anwar al-Awlaki’s kids eligible to be President.
Born in Yemen to one US citizen parent.
The next one is going to get nasty. Let’s hope it’s soon. Ginsberg or Kennedy, I don’t care which.
You continue to read into the Constitution things it does not say. That’s hardly conservative. That is, in fact, exactly the same sort of liberalism that got us Roe v. Wade.
Liberals begged Ginsburg to retire while the Liberal Messiah was President. She refused and now her desire to stay on the Court will lead to a solid Conservative majority on the Court. Thanks Ruth!
