I’ve watched the Doctor since the 1960’s when it ran on the CBC here in Canada (with about a decade off till PBS started...). Anyway, I started thinking it was going downhill when Moffat took over as show runner. He wrote some great who episodes (my wife still won’t watch “Blink”!) but the sense of fun was lost under his watch and instead it became bigger and badder and more “important.”
That said, I never made it through Capaldi’s first episode and haven’t been back. Time to watch “The Five Doctors” again, despite the lack of Tom Baker in it.
I think they forgot that it’s at heart a kids’ show. That doesn’t mean they have to dumb it down (far from it!), but they need to dance with the ones who brung them.
As for the next show runner, I hope whoever it is makes the Doctor great again! I’ve missed him.
cheers
Jim
Tom Baker was always my favorite.
In the renewal of the series, I liked Tenet,
but thought that Matt Smith added more
eccentricities that’s what I liked about
Tom Baker’s portrayal.
I watched the Capaldi episodes, but I wasn’t impressed.
