OMG...prayers to people sailing in these waters! As a sailor, I can tell you that the overwhelming majority of us steer clear of the north Atlantic during the winter. Notable exceptions may include merchant and military ships. Pleasure cruisers have no desire to die in the open ocean.

More credit to John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams for their Atlantic crossings on America's behalf in ships of their day, some of these crossings were in the dead of winter and extremely perilous due to weather and due to patrols by the British Navy.
