As an actual engineer and science guy - I find the show stupid and the characters have about as much depth as what liberal arts majors think of science and engineering guys (nothing more than nerds and not as cool as the liberal arts majors)
I’m an engineer, too (30 years, in RF, electronics, and firmware), and I like the show because it’s a popular comedy show on television that portrays engineers and scientists as people, not freaks (well, except for Sheldon). Sometimes, I think the show is funny, too. But these people are still Hollywood types, it must be remembered.
