I grew up with Shelties (Shetland Sheepdogs). I can attest not only to their smarts but their incredible loyalty, too. A dog that will lay down in a doorway of a room where a baby is sleeping to serve as the protector and sound the alarm the minute the baby gets fidgety.
Wonderful dogs but need room to run and 'herd' outside:

Our Rottweiler sleeps in the bedroom doorway when he’s not on the bed at our feet. He’s a well socialized guy but at home he’s all about our security.

I’ve had ‘bout 6-7 Shelties. Currently 2 run the house now. They are smart and love to R U N ! Loyalty is beyond measure. My wife has been instructed to bury me WITH them all on the mountain side. Mrs. Snooter claims this to be illegal in North Carolina . . . I’m still lookin’ for ways around the law that she would be ok with. Any ideas ?!?
