Not only was she looking away - I didn’t see her say thank you. She grabbed the box and turned away looking for someone in a uniform to pass it to.
What’s sad is that Melania probably put a lot of thought into something beautiful and special from Tiffany and Company; it seemed to me Michelle could have taken a few seconds to smile and thank Melania for the surprise and her kindness. Michelle could have at least faked being nice, it wouldn’t have killed her.
