No different from any other spouse of a GI.

The other spouse has gone off into a war zone to serve and she remains home to raise the family.

Why would anybody in their right mind want to live anywhere near Washington DC anyway?

I “lived” there 30+ years. It is a good place to make $$$...your tax dollars at work. It is great to be out of there and back to normal life.

Washington, DC is my home away from home. It’s a beautiful, exciting city.

I remember that Elizabeth Taylor didn’t want to live in DC when her hubby was elected Senator. She knew what the people were like there, hated the atmosphere, and kept away as much as possible.

Because Washington is beautiful and full of history and cultural opportunities. Why would anybody in their right mind want to live anywhere near the noise, crowds, perversions, and filth of Manhattan? Who would want to live in a high-rise? That's as far from real life--from trees and grass and beauty and animals and fresh air and normal people--as it's possible to get. (And yes, I have lived in both DC and NY.)
