ahhh been a while for pit stories! Ours was cool as well to me anyway... I was a trouble maker for the most part but knew the only way to get away with it was to be fully qualified on everything(Conventional Steam Plant)... fully qualified MM in 3 years, 3/4 signed off on BT and a 1/3 EM... one day were were DIW in the Sea of Japan... our Main Circ Pump Coupling went. I was wrenching on it when the old man and his groupies showed up standing nearby watching. I set a cigarette down on the edge of the Pump and the ash fell down on the deck. just then our ensign came over and proceeded to take my cig away... I said in not so low of voice... ‘hey! what are you doing?’ he responds with “*****... the captains standing right over there and you just dropped your ashes on the deck...” lol... is said back aloud...’I don’t care where the captains standing gimmie my cig back...’ I gave a look over and the old man gimmie a wink and smile and walked away. truly a moment in time. needless to say me and that ensign never seen eye to eye after that!
When 911 happened I tried to go back in but they said I was too old!! I’ll have to wait for my next life I guess! My daughter is leaving in 2 days! shes goin in as a Nuke! lol.. wish I could be there to watch!
