The practice of the parents arrangiing a marriage is very common outside of the USA.
When I married my wife 45 years ago in Viet Nam, she was the first person in her family to not get wed in an arranged marriage.
Arranged marriages are one thing, but murdering people is generally considered unacceptable in the CIVILIZED world.
