Sam Moore, of legendary soul and R&B duo Sam & Dave, has been announced as a performer at the Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration on January 19 in Washington, D.C.
I was a participant in the civil rights movement and have seen many positive changes and advancement in my 81 years of living in this wonderful country, but I know we must all join hands and work together with our new President, the Grammy Award-winning singer said in a press release. I honestly believe that if we can accomplish this, the best is yet to come.
Thank you for sharing. Nice memory.
I love it all.
I don’t know what caused the deletes.
Wearing the stars and stripes is a daring act nowadays for a performer like him.
For comparison I think of James Brown in 1985 with his song Living In America. He came out with it right in the middle of a conservative Republican administration. He’d perform it live with dancers decked out in stars and stripes. What’s interesting is that I don’t think it was controversial back then.
The lyrics are unironically pro American:
Super highways coast to coast just easy to get anywhere
On the trans continental overload; just slide behind the wheel
How does it feel when there’s no destination that’s too far
And somewhere on the way you might find out who you are?
Living in America, eye to eye, station to station
Living in America, hand to hand across the nation
Living in America, got to have a celebration!
I live in America
I live in America
You may not be looking for the promised land
But you might find it anyway
Under one of those old familiar names, like
New Orleans
Dallas
Detroit City
Pittsburgh, P.A.
New Orleans
Dallas
Detroit City
Pittsburgh, P.A.
New York City
Atlanta
Kansas City
New York City
Atlanta
Kansas City
Chicago and L.A.
Living in America, eye to eye, station to station
Living in America, hand to hand across the nation
Living in America, got to have a celebration!
Was that tune used in one of the Rocky movies?
And the Beach Boys declined . “ America’s band “ - NOT .
Yes, the one where he fought that Russian guy.
1967 was a good year for music. No so god w Vietnam Nam...11,000 U.S. troops died and that was the turning point of public support. On the home front, 159 race riots erupted across the country. The first occurred in Cleveland, but by far the most devastating were those that took place in Newark, New Jersey, and Detroit, Michigan. Even at 16, I was wondering “what the hell are these idiots doing burning down their own homes?” So we gave them tens of trillions of dollars and what did we get in return? A bigger permanent underclass with a giant chip on its shoulder, BLM, and complete lawlessness in many of the same cities.
Play it Steve!
Watching him now. America the beautiful.
Sadly, I missed it. I hate CNN, but it seems I should have been on CNN instead of talking head Fox. I am very upset with Fox today.
Life is good again. I found my way to Right Side Broadcasting on Youtube and I was privileged to watch him.
