Real ID. Qualifying driver’s licenses can be used to board planes, get government services, etc. If you don’t have one, you’ll need at least a passport card when the friendly federal agent says, “Ihre Unterlagen, bitte”

It was suppose to be effective in January last year. IL and a few other states are not compliant, so this July IL residents will need to show a Passport or Passport card traveling via plane to certain areas until they get the Real ID card in place.
