I will speculate these are requirements for an “Enhanced Drivers License.”
Here in Washington state, I have an “EDL” that allows me to travel to and from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
The requirements to obtain it were very strict.
It has not expired yet, so I don’t know anything about the Washington state renewal policy.
I just remembered that I had to take the eye test.
I read everything easily and told the guy that I could read the next smaller line if he wanted me to.
A few weeks after I had my cataract surgeries I went in for a follow up and I had 20-15 vision in both eyes. The girl said I might be even better because that was as fine as the machine went.
It was suppose to be effective in January last year. IL and a few other states are not compliant, so this July IL residents will need to show a Passport or Passport card traveling via plane to certain areas until they get the Real ID card in place. They only started working on this past year finally...
And, I think seniors, after a certain age, need an eye exam and must be able to hear and understand the clerk every 5 years, and there is also a long open space walk to the clerk's counter so they visually check your leg strength and mobility, too.
I also like the way Texas does their voter registration cards.”
Yes, we do that part well. One of the issues that was suggested we change several years ago never has been though. When someone shows up to vote, their address is read to them from the computer system prefaced by “Is your address still....”
True the Vote strongly recommended that the clerk take their ID and then ask them to give their address which is then checked against what is in the computer system. If the address they give is not the same as what is part of the computer records, they can still vote but it is provisional.
Have brought the issue up to my state rep and senator who are both Republicans and the Republican controlled Congress doesn’t seem to want to add any True the Vote recommendations. Lots of RINO’s in the Texas Congress.
“I live in FL, and only have to show my drivers license in order to vote.”
Same thing in my county in Florida.
Florida tightened its drivers license documentation requirements due to a combination of federal pressure and genuine worry over the ease with which several 9/11 hijackers obtained Florida drivers licences. I was also inconvenienced at renewal time by having to dig out my original social security card and birth certificate — yet I am glad that tougher requirements are in place and are enforced.
Same in Texas. I think it is Federal law. Some States refuse to obey.
He used a passport card for number 1;for 2 a recent 1099 form that arrived in the mail recently and 3 was a voter id, and we could have chosen from bank statements that had recently come in the mail, or we still had the Boat Registration which we hadn’t stored yet
When I renewed mine, the hardest thing to locate was my marriage certificate that shows the name change. Since my birth certificate was in my maiden name (of course), I needed to show proof of the name change...amusingly, I’d been getting my driver’s license in my married name for 34 years, but when this stricter verification criteria arrived, I had to prove the marriage.
Interesting observation...one ID that seems to have been left out is a Concealed Carry ID, at least I didn’t see anywhere it was listed as a “proof”
of ID
