I assume the Chargers will stay in the AFC so at least one game a year is a lock.
Ditto with teams in South Florida. First of is the weather, and the fact that most folks down there are transplants still loyal to their former teams.
I see there are a few Simpsons fans joining in the fun.
Those Raider home games in Vegas will be interesting...Trying to get home Sunday night won’t work.
Even those fans are fair-weather. The Miami Hurricanes are lucky to get 40,000 for their home games. And I know that if the Gators aren't playing well, there are a LOT of empty seats in The Swamp. Ditto for FSU.
Spanos and the NFL wanted to extort almost a billion taxpayer money for a new stadium downtown, where there is no room for it. If the voters approved that, the Chargers were not guaranteed to stay anyway. They wanted an option to stay. Get out and take Joe Barsdale with you. Get out of town and don’t come back.
Wow. They got savaged.
Did someone get PAID big bux for that logo??
This has been my team literally my entire life. But there is no way in hell I can root for an L.A. team. Just not gonna happen. And the logo is just stupid, and will only piss off San Diego fans. Maybe that is the intention. Bye, Chargers. Good riddance Spanos.
“LOL, same here. We were fine without ANY NFL teams. Its just a fad, just like the Rams. Heck, I dont even like going to Dodgers stadium due to traffic etc, and especially its like watching a soccer game in tijuana if you know what Im talking about...”
I go back so far, I watched the Dodgers at the Coliseum. And the Rams and Raiders.
I went to a few Raiders games in the early 90s when a friend had season tickets. I noticed some new condos across the street from the south parking lot.
But a few months later, I saw those condos burning after the Rodney King riots, and that did it for me.
I only enter Lost Angeles County when it is absolutely necessary.
And I am boycotting the NFL, since it supports the Krappernigue movement.
They actually began life as the Los Angeles Chargers, but departed to San Diego after just a year. Why not recycle that logo? Nobody would know the difference.
I’ve heard that the Jags are looking at San Diego. (Maybe San Antonio or St. Louis, too.)
Where will the Raiders go? There is speculation that both te Raiders and Athletics could wind up in Las Vegas.
I don’t see teh copyright infringement. Sorry.
Where will the Chargers paly their home games? Share the Coliseum with the Rams? Use the Rose Bowl? Angel Stadium?
Does anyone see another NFL expansion coming? they never let a city remain without their product for too long.
OTOH, ratings this year are way down (27 % last I heard.)
Apparently not.
Besides, despite the late Jack Kent Cooke, the NFL — even more than other professional sports leagues — frowns on owners building their own stadia.
Horace Stoneham, owner of the Giants, the day he moved from New York to San Francisco:
“Horace, aren’t you concerned for the children of New York?”
“Yes, but I haven’t seen too many of their fathers lately.”
(BTW, teh only one of his board members who voted against the move was M. Donald Grant, representing minority owner Joan Whitney Payson. Mrs. Paysonm became the original owenr of the New York Mets, and M. Donald Grant was the club’s first president.)
When we lived in Glendale, we could get home from the Big A fster than from Dodger Stadium.
Also the reasons the Marlins and Ray sdon’t do well.
The Yankees are more popular in Tampa than the Rays are.
So they drained The Swamp?
They are apparently planning to play their first couple of seasons in a 30,000 seat soccer stadium where the LA Galaxy plays. Then move in with the Rams to the new stadium in Inglewood when it opens.
