If intent is proved, he could be looking at 2nd-degree murder. IANAL, just my opinion as someone who reads a lot of self-defense legal issues, and someone who has been trained on these issues by the best (Ayoob, Branca).
I agree. I can imagine drastic apocalyptic times where one might have this reaction to a door knock, but this certainly is not one of them.
