After the raucous ride of 2016, theres a lot to be said for hitting the books for some good reading.
Whether its history, policy, or religion that you find most interesting, here is an assortment of books that our friends from The Heritage Foundation recommend.

It was waitlisted at my library, too, but I got it pretty quickly last summer, and then read it in a day. It moves right along. With 22 copies out, you may have it by the first of February.
I’ve read “A Terrible Glory”, “The Road to Serfdom”, and “The Conservative Mind.” All great reads. The Custer story is less philosophical than the other two, but they will all leave you thinking.
I suggest reading “Love your life not theirs” by Rachel Cruz, Dave Ramsey’s daughter, though it came out late 20163
"The Devil's Pleasure Palace: The Cult of Critical Theory and the Subversion of the West" by Michael Walsh
I really liked “I am Pilgrim,” by Terry Hayes, his debut novel. It’s mystery, suspense, thriller. Best book of its type I read last year. Hard to put down.

A poor implementation.
People should buy software like the olive tree reader that will synchronize a commentary or another translation with wherever you are, and turn on or hide a concordance as needed.
God’s word is best used with scholarly tools at hand.
Online stuff is okay if you are at some strange computer and need to reference a verse or two, but wholly inadequate in terms of speed and ease of use for devoted study.
I would add Atlas Shrugged.
ping for later
I’m about ready to go to the lapl website and do the same.
I love the online library catalog!
So many books to read, so little time. Currently reading "An Empire of Wealth" by John Steele Gordon. Fascinating reading on what made America the greatest economic power on earth.
Read it and couldn’t put it down. Having grown up in Ohio to parents who took the hillbilly highway, there was a lot there to relate to:)
I read “Hillbilly Elegy” and was very disappointed. It was poorly written, had no continuous thread and the author came across as an East Coast snob. I think it adds fuel to the fire that the midwest Trump voter is nothing but an uneducated hayseed hick.
I completely agree. Totally overrated book. Must have had connections in order to get published and promoted!
I’ve decided to list the books on my Kindle and/or kitchen table:
Philosophy 101 by Socrates and Peter Kreeft
Socratic Logic by Peter Kreeft
Yes, the Bible - daily but right now focusing on Isaiah.
The Map that Changed the World - by Simon Winchester - a reread
Pride and Prejudice - a reread
The Discernment of Spirits: An Ignatian Guide for Everyday Living
Theology of the Body for Teens - with my granddaughter
LOL I need a few lighter reads.
Atlas Shrugged prophetic about the low characters running the country.
Would add “Economics in One Lesson” to this list.
The Bible. Everything else is optional. Well maybe FR but that isn’t a book per se.
