The fact that a sub could get that close to a CVBG isn't a reflection on the surface Navy rather it is a reflection of our own submarine force failing its primary mission of sanitizing the area for the CVBG.

The attack sub fleet in wartime has to track and following and SINK every enemy attack sub for the surface Navy to be able to operate. THAT'S THEIR JOB. If our attack fleet can't do that then we're screwed. It is not their job to hot dog around in peacetime an play a fake hostile subs in a phony bologna exercise and claim some kind of superiority. IT IS ONE NAVY and every fleet asset has it's role.

Watch the fun!

And yes only subs will stalk subs effectively IMHO.
