The Saudis and Obama agreed on the oil crash plan to both hurt Russia and to destroy shale oil production. It was in their common interests. Both objects failed the Saudis couldn’t take the bleeding for more than a couple of years. Might have worked if they could kept it up for 5-10 years.

Actually I think you’re right. I’m not completely wrong, certainly Obama has done what he could to discourage production here, but I believe the Saudis were trying to keep prices low to hurt the Bakken. It didn’t work. It hurt, but they’ve learned to produce at much lower prices than before.

I don’t know that Russia played into that calculus, though.
