I liked it. I must have read it soon after it came out, because I was still working at That Insurance Company, which had a small general-use library, including recent fiction and nonfiction.

I found the Latin a little troublesome, as I’ve never given it too much study. But the web he weaves is quite interesting, and he makes his case well.
It’s a good companion piece to Arthur Herman’s “How the Scots Invented the Modern World”.
But it’s just a little sad that all this world-saving seems to come about by way of accidental predilections, rather than deliberate intentions.

Look! My shadow grew!
Good morning. The wind has finally stopped, but it’s supposed to rain today and tomorrow.
Zeke just sent me a text asking if I wanted to go see Chuck today. Well, Chuck is back in isolation and we’re supposed to use “universal precautions.” I don’t know if I want to go see him if I have to “suit up.”

Morning. I’m about to call the vet to get Shannon’s leg seen.

"Where is Cumberland in relation to you?" At least a four-hour drive.
Not unreachable, but requires planning.

It’s clear these two didn’t do it. You could never suspect them of whatever happened to the blinds.

Foreguessed high today is 62 Fs, followed by 44 tomorrow and 32 Saturday.
I think they need to change the name again to Global Climate Yo-Yo.

What’s going on with Shannon’s leg? Is this a new thing?

We noticed it last night. She’s limping and her ankle is swollen. We suspect she hurt herself jumping off something. Dr. Kaylor can see her after 11.

Oh, dang. That’s not good.
It’s very oddly quiet today, as no wind is whistling through the security screens. I think the people in the valley were getting to that “”Crazed” point with the winds. After about three days, the static electricity is so powerful that everything we touch gives us a spark, which at times can be painful.
So, no wind is good! There is snow eventing in the Sierras, and it has closed I-80 eastbound, which Nully could probably write a book about! We’re expecting rain here, which means more snow on Mt Charleston.
But there is. no. wind.

She’s pretty sad about it. She got in bed with Tom and made him hold her. It was weird.

Poor Shannon! I hope it’s nothing serious.
Tom is an old Softie, in spite of his Tame Ogreness.
