I dunno, we’ll see, he’s only four. But he comes from family on both sides of black men, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, etc., who do not conform to those stereotypes. I certainly don’t plan on tolerating any crap, and he’ll certainly have plenty of counter-examples close by to look to for models.
At school, I’m hoping that he judges people not by race, but by the content of their character, and I’m sending him to schools that seem to be generally populated by kids who come from good families of a variety of racial backgrounds.
I think he’ll be fine.
Good to hear. I don’t have kids, but I think it has to be difficult to raise any kid nowadays. It seems like society at large conspires against you...but you sound like you have the right approach to me.
