I have a favorite New Year’s Eve movie: The Hudsucker Proxy.

You know, for kids!

There is an Apollo 8 documentary I am particularly fond of. And the reason is that it was that year my dad asked what I wanted for Christmas and I wanted to see the launch so he took some time off and he drove me from Washington D.C. to the Cape and watched it from Patrick AFB and drove back in time for Christmas and to see the famous broadcast on T.V., I think about that trip every year. It was absolutely amazing.

My favorite is the original Miracle on 34th Street

A Christmas Story was a disappointment because I was familiar with the source (In God We Trust-All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd), a compilation in book form of short stories that were originally published in Playboy magazine. The book is so much better, and not as cloyingly sweet as the movie.

And the book itself was a Christmas present to me, many years ago.

My favorite line from the book (incomplete in the movie), was when Ralphie was sitting on Santa’s lap...

“Santa’s warm, moist breath poured down over me as though from some cosmic steam radiator. Santa smoked Camels, like my Uncle Charles”.

Battle of the Bulge. At least that’s what it’s about.

We’re No Angels. Not the one with Sean Penn, this is the film with Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, and Peter Ustinov as prisoners escaping Devil’s Island.

I second “Midnight Clear”.....a reminder of the humanity that’s found even in the most horrid situations (Battle of the Bulge).

Second fav would be “Bad Santa”.....lewd, sick, hilarious but believe it or not, with a great, great message!!

Forgot to list Fred Claus. Not your typical Vince Vaughn movie. Actually very sweet. Has a fine cast of actors including Paul Giamatti, Rachel Weisz, Kathy Bates, and Kevin Spacey.

I found another cute little Christmas movie: “Christmas for a Dollar.” It was sweetly worth watching!

Fitzwilly, a relatively unknown movie not shown very often starring Dick Van Dyke, Barbara Feldon, and John McGiver.
... and just about every other movie mentioned so far.
