New York Citys teachers might make a paltry salary, but the perks are grade A.
One-percent parents lavish their offsprings educators with cash tips and over-the-top gifts for the holidays to show their appreciation and maybe get some special treatment for Junior.

teachers are NOT underpaid....many of them are overpaid......
many of them could not make it in any other degree or employment and since teaching gives them most of the year off, why not?

One percenters don’t send kids to PUBLIC schools,-— private is private. No problem here.

Its a government employee, taking valuable gifts. Laws?? The article is about private schools with $30k tuitions. I had my doubts about any one-percenters in New York sending their little snowflakes to a public school.

Yes they do, maybe not to your schools. But out here in New Jersey, we have some of the best public schools in the nation (and some of the worst, like Asbury Park, Newark, Camden etc)
At the public school I did work for, we had students whose father who was the CEO of PSE&G and another who's mother was partner of a prominent law firm in Manhattan. Their parents made well into the seven figures, I call that 1% territory.

What do you think is a good salary range for a teacher who works 10 months of the year plus attends training and/or classes in the summer?

I am self employed. I saved up years to buy a Rolex. I always wear it meeting clients. It is a uniform piece of success and DOES make a difference when meeting people. Men pay attention to such things in a business setting. I don’t wear it any other time.

I wear a Timex everyday. The Rolex is only for special occasions. I have a cell phone but only use it for when I need to make a call.
I despise being in constant contact at all times. I'm still a bit of a Luddite. Technology serves me not vice versa.
I don't feel that the teachers indoctrinating our youth should be getting expensive gifts.

They don’t have a “mandatory” unpaid layoff every year. Unless you mean to insinuate that they entered an employment agreement or contract and DIDN’T know they had summers off and thought they made an HOURLY rate that covered a 2080 hour year...

Here there is always a little gift for the teachers, in December for the holidays, and in June for the school year. I just give a little gift card to a store. It’s not a bribe for grades as my kids don’t get grades. (One is special needs at a hybrid school, and the other is only in preschool) it’s for appreciation. And last year my son had a terrible teacher and she got NOTHING.
