NASA Scientist Says Earth Is Due for ‘Extinction-Level’ Event

Earth is due for an “extinction-level” event from the sky, and even if we see it coming, we won’t be able to do anything about it, a NASA scientist said Monday.

Speaking at a meeting in San Francisco, Dr. Joseph Nuth of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center said large asteroids and comets, the type that could wipe out civilization, are extremely rare, but tend to hit “50 to 60 million years apart.” Given that a comet wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, one could argue that we’re slightly past “due.”

“The biggest problem, basically, is there’s not a hell of a lot we can do about it at the moment,” he added.

I heard from someone else this morning that there was a huge CME like this morning and it might be heading our way. I haven’t seen any news about it today. Maybe that person was wrong (or it’s REALLY bad so they aren’t telling us).

Hey NASA, shut up and figure out how to get someone in orbit with one of our own rockets.

...does that mean we don’t have to worry about global warming anymore???

If worrying would help, I'd worry. It won't, so I don't.

I listened to this Joe Rogan podcast a while back and it was fascinating.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H5LCLljJho&list=PLk1Sqn_f33KuS7ZSVMJqzFaqOyyl-esmG&index=17

It’s an interview with 2 scientists who have been connecting events around the world with a cataclysm 12000 years ago that cause massive floods. They think a comet hit causing massive melting and flooding that wiped out most of humanity and was the source of the great flood story that is common almost universally across all religions and tribes around the globe.

This can happen today, so I think it is worth putting some resources into it. It would not require the ridiculous amount of money that the global warming fiasco would require. The difference is that this is a real threat. Look at the big even in Russia a few years ago and Tunguska back in 1900. A city or country could be wiped out with one of these... or even an extinction level event.

The upside is that we would finally be rid of communists and liberals forever!

We’re all going to die!

An absolutely true statement! It takes a little longer for some than for others.

Yep. It could happen 2 million years from now and he’d still be right.

“Not much we can do about really.”

I remember some large object that was very close to Earth - I’m thinking it came closer than the moon. NASA saw it too - as it was going away from us!

Global warming isn’t going to fly in the Trump administration, and people got bills to pay. I expect the odds of a comet hitting the Earth will significantly increase on January 20, 2017.

Happens more times than you’d imagine. But what’s the point in announcing it all the time? Would only serve to get millions of folks all riled up and near chaos breaking out. Trust me, when a meteor or an asteroid is on target to hit us we’ll be told. And God help us all.
