He leaves behind an ambiguous legacy, even after his military and NASA service. He turned into a politically hack who cravenly prostrated himself for a return to space.
That's the best line I've seen yet. He was a national hero as a combat vet and Mercury astronaut. That's my preferred legacy for him.
That he was corrupted by his time inside the Beltway is hardly surprising. I'm hoping that President Trump is able to drain that swamp.
