A family source said that Glenn was in declining health, that his condition was grave, and that Annie Glenn and his children and grandchildren had joined him at the hospital.
I was young and alive when He went into space and I, like so many other young boys, fantasized about space travel .... so our generation did the natural thing ...
Created Barbarella.
Because he quit.
“The story was that during the Cold War, Glenn became such an American hero as the first American to orbit the Earth, that Kennedy barred him from future space flight because he didn’t want to risk a mishap that killed Glenn.”
Interesting to think about that, when you consider the strange circumstances under which Yuri Gagarin died in about 1965 or thereabouts.
Indeed. Higher, faster, farther all fade away but when you are The First, that lasts forever. Godspeed John Glenn.
never met him in person and wouldn’t say a bad word about him anyway, but he was apparently a good man to have beside you in combat, and i don’t think anyone can question his service to America.
He was one of my heroes as a boy when he was an astronaut, then as a Senator he helped scuttle the investigation of Chinese money financing Clinton’s campaign, forever changing my opinion of the man.
Glenn also appeared — with Eddie Hodges — on the game show “Name That Tune” in the late ‘50s.
You’re an ass. He was a USMC pilot with 149 combat missions in two wars, and got on top of a rocket when it was about a 20% chance it would blow up.
A few political disagreements don’t negate that.
I wish him well on his next great adventure.
Then why even bother to comment?
Excuse me? Can't comment on this site? Really?
Except for covering for Clinton selling technology to China in exchange for campaign cash.
The Chinese were not able to get anything off the launch pad prior to the transfers that Clinton arranged, after they could target every American city with nuclear weapons.
Glenn assisted in squashing the investigation of those transfers of technology.
I will have to say that John Glenn was always something of an iconic enigma to me....
.... A great warrior A brave, brave man.
...And yet his political views were so out of line with his character
It’s still a mystery
Godspeed John Glenn.
When someone decent but maybe politically different is at deaths door, it isn’t traditional around here to kick em when they are down. That’s DU mentality.
Or put another way, you think John Wayne would put him down when he’s 90+ and on his death bed?
SENATOR Glenn's atrocious voting record does not besmirch COLONEL Glenn's wartime and NASA heroism.
COLONEL Glenn's wartime and NASA heroism does not redeem SENATOR Glenn's atrocious voting record.
I suggest that you learn to make distinctions.
Highlights: John Glenn as an astronaut, John Glenn’s appearance on Frasier.
Lowlight: Senator John Glenn
You’re an ass. You should make the distinction that the time to go after him was then, not on his deathbed at 90 something.
You sound like the type that’d kick a man when he was down, or punch a man with glasses on.
It wasn’t just a few political disagreements.
Clinton sold the Chinese technology transfers for campaign cash that allowed them to get to space and target every American city with nuclear weapons.
Prior to those transfers everything they tried to launch blew up on the launch pad.
Glenn shut down the investigation of that treason.
