House Quietly Passes Bill Targeting "Russian Propaganda" Websites (Drudge, ZeroHedge, etc)

On November 30, one week after the Washington Post launched its witch hunt against "Russian propaganda fake news", with 390 votes for, the House quietly passed "H.R. 6393, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017", sponsored by California Republican Devin Nunes (whose third largest donor in 2016 is Google parent Alphabet, Inc), a bill which deals with a number of intelligence-related issues, including Russian propaganda, or what the government calls propaganda, and hints at a potential crackdown on "offenders."...

...it is easy to see how this law, if passed by the Senate and signed by the president, could be used to target, threaten, or eliminate so-called “fake news” websites, a list which has been used to arbitrarily define any website, or blog, that does not share the mainstream media's proclivity to serve as the Public Relations arm of a given administration.

I know that the hate list is from a wholly owned subsidiary of Jeff ‘Dr. Evil’ Bezos, but I’m still not worried. I think Alphabet/Google is looking down the barrel of an antitrust lawsuit under the Trump admin. Shenanigans like this only serve to accelerate that happening.

Which is fine. Unless you believe that under a Trump admin that those under his charge are going to come to the conclusion that certain websites need to be shut down as part of the threat assessment. I don’t think that would happen. And, if it did, I think they will hit the Brick wall of the first amendment heard before a Supreme Court with a conservative majority.

Still not worried. Yea, we’ve fought hard. But calling BS on a yappy lap dog does not mean I, personally, have stopped fighting. I’m just calling out Zerohedge for taking this to the Nth degree without taking a look at the really real world we are in. The view presented in the article is projected though the lense of 2012, that is not our current reality.

I truly do respect your point of view, much respect. You are correct in saying we must not become complacent. It’s always good to have a healthy amount of suspicion WTR our overlords. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Trump admin could win trust for a change? It would certainly be a first for me.

I agree that appears less likely than the Obama administration, as of today. But let's say Trump starts swinging full establishment at some point, and starts breaking a lot of his biggest promises to the ones that elected him, such as reneging on building a wall, or deporting criminal aliens? Then as a result, many of the US-based sites on that hit list start coming out against him? This is of course assuming he gets cleanly through the recount process, and electoral college voting. My point is, take nothing for granted.

Yes Sir, it is. They are politicians, after all. Great discussion, and I'm just as hopeful as you are we may have finally turned a corner with the election of Trump. Not just putting our hopes in him, but in the people of this country that finally want to make it great again. And if that happens, a lot of the paranoia might start to slightly fade.

Remember the mass hysteria that took us into Iraq? This is just like that and it has everything to do with Obama being found out by most of those publications. It has nothing to do with Russis.

I am ashamed of the GOP. They were so railroaded and it will bite them in the butt.

We need a third party...maybe the Constitutionalist.
