The construction of a controversial £116million life-size replica of the Titanic began in China yesterday.

A keel-laying ceremony and fireworks marked the start of work in the southwestern Sichuan province.

The replica plans sparked controversy when it was announced the design would include a simulation of the iceberg crash that sank the original ship in the Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912. Some 1,500 people died in the disaster.

Not a actual functioning ship but a museum/hotel. I must admit I went the to 1/3 replica of the Titanic in Pigeon Forge, TN. The wife and kids made me go.

Why not? Anything they make in China isn’t worth a %%%% and doesn’t work. Why not build a ship that doesn’t sail?

I read last year that there actually was a working new Titanic, ready to receive passengers.

I seen articles about some Australian billionaire interested in an actual working replica but I do not believe the idea has advanced beyond the blueprint stages.

Can they fill it full of American progressives and reenact the sinking?

Much easier to do what Liverpool did... take a Victorian era warehouse, remodel it and simply call it the Titanic Hotel...:^)

In 1999 I was in Sag Harbor and bought a shirt emblazoned with;

“Titanic, 1912, Swim Team”.

When I would wear it some people would cringe to which I responded:

“Too Soon?”

Loved that T-Shirt and going back next year to get a few more...
