One model with a mullet and mustache throws a 'Blue Steel' pose as he models a velour dressing gown while another similar-looking chap stands confidently in a snazzy pair of bell-bottom trousers.
These are snapshots from a range of 1970s adverts showing the most popular men's fashions of the day.
High-waist pants, skimpy briefs, synthetic fabrics and psychedelic patterns seem to be in vogue - looks more suited to the fancy dress parties of today.

Having horrible flashbacks to my mom sending me off to school in a leisure suit she had bought at Kmart.
You can always date a movie by the clothes and the technology.
I wore boot cut denim jeans with a denim jacket.
T-shirts in summer, turtlenecks or sweaters in winter.
Could be worse. In one of my yearbook pictures I’m wearing a Nehru jacket.
LOL that one guy in the blue thermal underwear looks like a young Charles Krauthammer!
If I had any of those clothes in my closet I would rent them out for Halloween.
I think the 1970’s were the worst decade on record for men’s fashion! I’d rather go back to wearing togas than platform shoes, bell bottom pants and graphic shiny shirts!
yikes...was that like a gay web page ?
some of those clothes showed up at my wedding, along with the porn mustaches.
So gay.
Apparently, every man was gay in the 1970’s.
As I recall, MOST of these crazy knits were not worn by real people in the 70’s.
Just went and looked at the article. That is absolutely the gayest looking bunch of men I’ve ever seen!
There was some weird fashion crap back in the early 70’s. Tried my best to keep it to Levi’s, chukka boots and hang ten shirts.
All of them in those ads most certainly is!
I lived it as a kid and young teen. Looking back through these ads, it honestly looks like some weird gay Star Trek on acid, but I don’t recall it being quite that bad. Oh yeah, it was bad enough, but most didn’t buy this stuff. I do recall guys wearing platform boots for a year or two, had a pair myself, lol. Those were some good years, too, though, wacky clothing aside.
I was in the Navy and I liked bell-bottom pants. I wish that they would come back in fashion.
In one of my yearbook pictures Im wearing a Nehru jacket.
