Texas will fire head coach Charlie Strong on Saturday morning, SI's Pete Thamel has confirmed. Chip Brown of Scout.com first reported the news. Texas men's athletic director Mike Perrin issued a statement last Sunday, saying that the school will "evaluate the body of work after the regular season," after Thamel confirmed that the school had made the decision to fire Strong.

Why fire him? Must be racism.
$5 million per year to pay a coach for a losing record ain’t good.
Charlie’s predecessor Mack Brown compiled a 158-48 record in 1998-2013 at the University of Texas. Charlie had a losing season every one of his 3 years with a 16-21 record. His final game was a 31-9 loss to TCU.
“Strong is married to a white woman and told the Orlando Sentinel that he believes the interracial marriage has had a negative impact on his quest to become a head coach.” (Orlando Sentinel, 2009)
I sure hope that Charlie doesn’t try to play the race card regarding the inevitable firing that will probably take place today. Anyone with any integrity knows its because the Longhorns have an all-time record of 88835333 (71% winning average) and his performance was way below that.

They should have been honest and fired him after the ignominious loss to KS last week. Texas lost to TCU yesterday anyway, so the inept AD gained nothing by letting Strong twist in the wind, subjecting him to degrading interviews with the circling media buzzards for a week.
UT doesn't have to leave the state to get enough talent to win a national title. My suggestion for the next coach is to recruit kids that know how to tackle...that's been UT's problem since Strong arrived.
I shook my head in disgust with this hiring years ago because I KNEW it would not work and that my alma mater was setting itself up for charges of racism when come to Jesus day rolled around.
For a black man to succeed at Texas he would have to get the team in the national championship game every other year, minimum. So, “a firing” is inevitable day one for all but the very, very, very best. Charlie never had a chance and joins a long line of “fired” head football coaches at UT.
Sad day because Charlie was and is a class act.
Really? So Charlie is being fired because he is black?
B.S. Have you seen Texas play?
I guess when A&M fires Summerlin it will be because he is black too?
It’s stupid to hire a coach and not give him enough time to suceed. He’s just getting his recruiting classes up. Future coaches should be wary.
Lol, please get someone to reread you the article several times real slowly!
“Stupid” has nothing to do with firing head football coaches at UT. It’s a tradition!
Some believe even Darryl Royal would have been fired had he hung around another year or two. Akers was fired with a winning percentage of somewhere over 80 %. David McWillams was fired.
Only the very, very, very best coach can survive at UT. Charlie is not that. Why let him continue to twist in the wind? Time for Charlie and UT to move on.
My father was a sportswriter at a major Fla newspaper and in private conversations he used to say that Univ. of Florida was the graveyard of coaches. The powerful Alumni would NOT let the coaches run the program, that is until Steve Spurrier got there. Urban Meyer used Fla as a stepping stone to his Ohio State Job. Will Muschcamp was back to musical coaches.
Musical coaches is a very, very expensive game.
ESPN has flashed on it’s pregame show that Charlie has officially been fired.
You’re the one who brought race into the subject.
Charlie Strong is being fired because he wasn’t a good steward of Texas football. In other words, he’s a loser.
Here’s something interesting: http://www.outkickthecoverage.com/charlie-strong-may-have-had-affair-with-top-louisville-donor-s-wife-022216
Apparently ‘ole Charlie likes to “do” other mens wives. Fine and dandy. But there is speculation that Texas may use this to not have to pay his buyout.
Apparently, Ed Orgeron is now the new HC at LSU. Sounds like UT will get Tom Herman. The Longhorns have some young talent and Herman should do well right out of the gate. The challenge will be 3-4 years down the road. Can he bring in top notch talent to UT and develop it?
He was handed a broken team. It was a rebuild. Unfortunate for Strong, this year needed to see progress. I bet if he was given another year it would have been there.
His first year he had to drop 8-10 guys from the team for misconduct. Coach Brown was an excellent coach but the wheels were coming off in his final couple years and Strong will suffer the same fate Brown did for the same reason. The program had fallen hard.
Hopefully, they get Tom Herman. He’s a fantastic coach and will likely fix things quickly. He has the potential to be an Urban Meyer level coach.
Probably should have moved away from Mack Brown sooner than they did, but he’d won a national championship, so it was a very delicate situation.
......I think if you read it one more time real slow you will “get” that the point of my post is that only a very, very, very good head football coach can survive at UT and the idiots that hired Charlie knew that but hired Charlie anyway thus opening up UT, years down the road, to racist innuendo or outright charges which we ALREADY see on this thread.
I don’t know anything about the affair you mention. In Charlie’s defense, I would point out that it takes two people to committ infidelity.
UT has a phalanx of the worlds BEST lawyers and I guarantee you not one of them will advise UT to drag the school through a years long fight over his buyout that they would surely lose in front of a Travis County uber liberal jury.
Charlie Strong was a HORRIBLE game day coach. It was maddening to watch the poor game management all season. I don't care if he had rainbow colored skin, he was in way over his head at Texas. His weekly press conferences were painful to watch - I just don't think he is a smart man. Worst all-time record in Texas history, at 43.2%. It's great his players love him, but getting wins with at least a fairly clean squad is the primary metric at UT, as it should be.
Here’s what you posted: “For a black man to succeed at Texas he would have to get the team in the national championship game every other year, minimum”
So, since that is an impossible standard for anyone I figured that the only reason he would be held to that standard is because he is black.
Reading reeeeeeaaall slow, that’s what I got out of it.
