I got a call from Tim Cook at Apple, and I said, Tim, you know one of the things that will be a real achievement for me is when I get Apple to build a big plant in the United States, or many big plants in the United States, where instead of going to China, and going to Vietnam, and going to the places that you go to, youre making your product right here. Trump told the NYT on Tuesday.
I think well create the incentives for you, and I think youre going to do it. Were going for a very large tax cut for corporations, which youll be happy about. But were going for big tax cuts, we have to get rid of regulations, regulations are making it impossible. Whether youre liberal or conservative, I mean I could sit down and show you regulations that anybody would agree are ridiculous. Its gotten to be a free-for-all. And companies cant, they cant even start up, they cant expand, theyre choking.
But where will Apple find American employees who will work themselves to death?
Literally....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxconn_suicides
Tim Cook could build iphones in his home state of Alabama and solve a hell of a lot of social problems there.
But since he’s an anti-American oddball with an axe to grind against white heterosexuals (his alleged kin), he won’t.
Unless forced.
PS - a quick analysis of iphone costs shows that the price might be about $30 higher when made in the U.S.
Really not a concern...unless you just really need that extra billion for executive bonuses.
Best thanksgiving ever
Trump may be all talk, he may not follow through, but I sure like the way he talks.
Let’s see how this goes down...
PS
Just Wow
He’s changing the world EVERY DAY
Nope. Still not tired of winning.
So Dems, do you want to be the senators that enabled Apple to move here or the ones that said no?
Trump also said he’s working on Carrier to not move their A/C plant to Mexico, and that he thinks he making some progress.
That's crazy talk.
0bama’s no doubt twisting on the end of the hook . . . as this Americanism must be really hurting himself and Michael.
Rush says if iphones were made in the USA they'd sell for $2,000 each. Of course that's nonsense and proves once again that business and trade are not his areas of expertise.
But do you have some links to support your figures? I'd really like to see something if it's available. I'd guess the cost increase would be well less than $100 on their most expensive phones.
Why does Rush push apple products so hard? Half his shows now feel like a iPhone infomercial
Business.
How does it work?
I don’t know why. He’s definitely enamored of computer and cell phone technology and loves Apple products, but he does go overboard with it almost every day. He’s been giving every caller a new iphone for last two or three days of his show when I was listening.
And AFAIK he gets no special consideration or freebies from Apple, even though he has to be one of their best promoters. And of course, the Apple sorts do not like him or his political views.
What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If you lower it for one then lower it for all. Taxes distort business decisions.
Even Forbes admits basic assembly costs would $30-$40 greater in the U.S. and possibly $80-$90 if other components were U.S. sourced.
But all of that is irrelevant. The basic cost is absorbed in various contract deals by the big providers and is typically nothing more then a negotiating point for upsells.
And those are estimated costs NOW, not after a few years of production optimization based on automation.
One of the things Trump is naive on, is the fact that of all the computer companies making products, Apple already has large plants in the USA making components for their products and even building whole computers, and other plants in North Carolina and elsewhere. Here in the SF Bay Area, and in Austin Texas one can find Apple making chips and computers among other things. The same cannot be said for others. And Apple is already moving more production here, long before the message from Trump. With tax cut incentives, it will put Apple in a position for even more growth. At least Trump is focusing on an American company, and not foreign companies like Samsung or Lenovo.
I don't doubt it. Several years ago I read that the production cost in Asia of all those super expensive sneakers was around $8 to $12 per pair.
And there are plenty of smart phones that sell for $100 and less, so the labor component of making a smart phone can't be too great even on the most expensive phones.
And Rush still will not talk about the harm done to our economy and workers by one-sided trade deals (which he always supported in the past).
