Donald Trump and his wife Melania are spending the Thanksgiving holiday at the business mogul's Mar-a-Lago resort.  Trump bought the estate for $10million in 1985 for his then wife Ivana. The resort was developed in the 1920s for heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post.  After he acquired the resort, Trump redeveloped the main house and created his own private quarters - decked out in gold.

Not my style. Living around all that would drive me buggy.

A little gaudy for my taste too.

A way to go, before it is Buckingham Palace,eh?

Exactly. So Trump's taste runs to the palatial style of the 18th and 19th centuries. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

They also didn’t like the fact that the resort was open to jewish and minority members, as Trump insisted

“Those people “ were not welcome at many Palm Beach clubs

At least your tax dollars didn’t pay for it
Have we ever seen the decor at Hillary’s 3 mansions and how she used the furniture and objects she pilfered from the White House and again, the State Department?

Everything is possible when you don’t have to dust it yourself.

Maybe I’m a minority here, but if I had Trump’s bucks, I would be perfectly happy living in a place with his interior decoration style. It puts me in mind of the late 19th Century mansions in Newport, Rhode Island of the captains of industry at the time. Those people valued the fine heritage of European fine art and brought a taste of it to these shores. Sure it’s upper class, but noblesse oblige and all that.

Yikes.
Not my style but to each his own.

I wonder how large the cleaning staff is. With so much ornate do-dads it’s a dust bunny Valhalla.

That is not my taste either but it's not my money (or my tax dollars). Where is the walk in gun safe?😊

I’d not like dusting it. ;)

Yeah, not too crazy about the Saddam Hussein chic. He likes it, though. It’s all over his residences in New York and Florida. It’s his home, so he can live how he wants.

I think this was a restoration of the original Margie Post decorations, NOT the Trumps own style necessarily.

I love Mr. Trump. His sense of style, however, is awful.

Exactly. I’ve been in huge ancient cathedrals in Europe, and appreciated their beauty and craftsmanship, but I would never want to live in one. :-)

I prefer my hovel.

He’s a wealthy self-made person so who cares what his decorating style and so forth are? It is his money and he can throw it in the fireplace if he wants to do so. We are surrounded by politicians and their criminal minions who have made fortunes stealing from taxpayers. They are the ones to be criticized...and investigated. The media and LIBs ignore this because they are at the trough...and screwing the taxpayers.

A bit silly, really - the place is opulent by American standards, to be sure, but average according to European standards for establishments of that nature. One gets the impression that the author either hasn't seen the latter or feels that he wouldn't be welcome - Americans don't always hear class envy very well, but it's there in the article.

I couldn't live in it, but the whole point of such places is that they're there to visit and enjoy as condiments in the cuisine of everyday life. Would I part with 14 kilobucks for an annual visit? Hell no, I'd use the money on fencing and outbuildings. Which is why I'm happy as me and I hope Trump is happy as him.
