Already had “that” conversation with “adult,”(as in over 21 y/o) kiddos. Not pretty. So spouse and I declined Thanksgiving dinner invitation.

A renewed invitation arrived yesterday, so I suppose they’re somewhat over their grief and willing to have a reasonable Thanksgiving dinner with the folks. We accepted the offer. Nonetheless, I’m keeping my car keys handy in case we have to make a speedy departure.

My sister's family has always been interesting. Drama queens the lot of them. One year my nephew chose the Thanksgiving Gathering as the perfect occasion to come out. He didn't get the reaction he wanted so he pitched a fit and one of my brothers threw him out (we were at our parents home). Another year one of the nieces decided to try her hand at politics by calling the newly re-elected GW a Nazi. Not a good gambit in a house full of conservatives.

The irony to me was that we put up with their tantrums, their disruptions, and their boorishness for years and then when our parents passed away she decided that she (and her family) were done with us.

Best of luck on your dinner. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
