We decided to escape to Wisconsin after my mother sent an email on November 9 saying the family “needed to come together and heal from this traumatic event” among other things. I lovingly told my mother that we would not be there because she set the tone for the day and I would not subject myself to being a walking, talking target on which she could vent her anger about the election.
