Eric in the Ozarks :" We have the same conditions here water wise...will you get enough snow for tracking the deer?
our population here is great...."

With the greying of the population, and the growing number of "couch potatoes", there are fewer hunters pursuing deer each year.
So yes , the herds and the size of deer is increasing; it seems that more and more deer are being hit on the roadways than hunters are harvesting.
In the current 56 degree weather there is no snow for tracking,..yet ! The front is still about 2 hours away.
Generally, the first snow is slopp, slush, and very wet, and causes idiot drivers to spin out and is the cause of multiple automobile accidents.
However, the cold snap should last 2-3 days with enough snow to allow tracking into the end of the week.
My son is out now, so I expect a call soon for the dehydrator for making jerkey.
Last year, no call. It figures since we had just gotten the 'Excaliber' .. Lol !

My folks were stationed in Japan with the Army when I was growing up in the 1950s. When the holiday foodstuffs would hit the PX/Commissary, it was usually a sellout in the first week.
A big bowl of nuts for cracking was always on the shopping list and one of my dad's favorite tricks was to carefully pry open a walnut and take out the nutmeats, replacing them with a 10 yen coin.

I tried to act excited. He did this every year...
