You don’t need to pronounce the first “c” in arctic.

If you are enunciating the word correctly, yes, you do! Look in your dictionary. Remember, the word irregardless is irredundant! < BG >

John, why does the spellcheck accept irregardless?

dictionary.com says it’s OK. Common usage eventually becomes acceptable usage, whether we like it or not. There was a time, I imagine, when people pronounced the “k” and the “gh” in “knight”. Then they stopped.
