Democratic Underground is currently online for Star Members only. If you are a Star Member and you have already reset your password, click here to log in.
As most of you probably know, Democratic Underground was vandalized by a hacker on election day, forcing us to take the site offline. We have spent the last week performing a security review of our software.
At this time the DU discussion forums are back online for Star Members only. We are taking this precaution because we want to make sure that we are only receiving legitimate traffic while we continue to test our software and the new security measures that have been put in place. This limited opening period should only last two or three days before we open up the site to everybody.
How to change your password and log in
We do not believe that member passwords were compromised during the hack, but out of an abundance of caution we are asking all of our members to change their passwords before logging in. To verify that you are the person responsible for your account, you will need to provide the username and email address associated with your DU account. After you have entered your username and email address, you will be emailed a temporary password along with instructions to log in to the site. After logging in, you will be prompted to select a new password of your choice.

If you are not a Star Member, you will be able to retrieve a new password with the link above, but you will not be able to access the site unless you purchase a Star Membership.
Becoming a Star Member
If you would like to purchase a Star Membership, you must first get a new password and log in by following the instructions above. Then click here.
Troubleshooting
If you do not remember your username, click here.
If you no longer have access to the email address associated with your account, click here.
If you have exhausted all the other options and you are still having trouble, send an email to mail@democraticunderground.com for assistance.
you can become a star member for one year for $1. Trolling isn’t that expensive for those guys.
Here is one comment that seems to sum up their feelings:
“And yeah, I agree with you wholeheartedly-NPR in the car is not a pleasant experience any more. I rely on the classic hard rock stations to take me to a safer place!”
They go to DU so they can all cry together and have a safe space. What a bunch of pu$$ies.
No, no, no! They should let everyone in, regardless of their membership status or the site’s ability to accommodate the traffic. To do otherwise is selfish, xenophobic, and discriminatory. Well, that’s their approach to immigration....
Hi.
How many registered users does du have? Do you know offhand what their Alexis ranking is?
Thanks. I don’t want to clean my hard drive.
5.56mm
Okay, makes perfect sense, one would suppose.
‘Profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly.’
I visited the DUmp not too long ago, just before they tucked tail for about a week, in order to enjoy the schadenfreude.
I had forgotten about all the obscene language, really disgusting. A normal person walks out of there needing a bath.
I thought by their definition we're all too stupid to be hacking anything. How could we hack a server with our knuckles dragging on the floor?
What you say confirms my suspicions. I always thought that the owner wasn’t paying his bills or the financing was drying up. The fact it’s now a pay site confirms this.
“Also highly inefficient. Ten days and still down?”
The guy in charge, name escapes me,was a die-hard Hillary supporter and even longtime DUers didn’t DARE say one word against her after Bernie was out.
He’s probably in a rubber room someplace——sobbing.

Good point——too dumb, too busy shooting things, and too busy defacing mosques.
:-)

Lol, yeah, but you have to give them your credit card number. It could end up being a lot more expensive the way lefties handle security.
James O’Keefe effect.
I just renewed my password. Learned years back to get an ID way ahead of the election. It was a Bush win and they locked out all non-members. There really isn’t much more fun on an election night we win and going there to watch the self destruction. Had to settle for watching MSNBC. Whoever crashed their site, what were you thinking? I was very disappointed this year when I went to go lurk. Not a big poster so I mostly just read on this site as well.
Well, still cannot see since as you said, it’s only open to Star members.
My guess is that too many members went loony and started posting things that would give the Secret Service no choice but to get involved, and that it took a while to scrub all the death threats against Trump.
>> Theyre hugging their teddy bears and sipping cocoa in their safe place... <<
Exactly. This hack attack is nonsense. There’s no reason they can’t allow the public to read threads. They just don’t want us to enjoy their misery.
Capitalist FTW.
They’re afraid an occasional FReeper gloat might get through, I guess. And it’s just so HARD on their mods to do that deleting...
As far as I am concerned, they can stay off line.
