An Australian resident has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering her friend with cyanide-laced coffee.
Jessica Kumala Wongso, 28, remained expressionless as three Jakarta judges sentenced her in a case that has dominated the Indonesian press since it began earlier this year.
The judges found on Thursday that she had shown no remorse for killing her 27-year-old friend, Wayan Mirna Salihin, at a Jakarta cafe on 6 January.
I dont accept this decision because for me, its not fair and very one-sided, Wongso said after the verdict.

During the trial, two Australian forensic experts put forward by the defence argued it was not possible to conclude that Mirna had died from cyanide poisoning as a postmortem had not taken place on religious grounds.
Dr Michael Robertson said only a small amount of cyanide had been found in samples from Mirnas stomach and her death could have been due to other causes.
But the judges rejected this, finding almost 300mg of cyanide had entered Mirnas body. About 120mg would be lethal to humans.
Wongso, they added, was the only one at Olivier cafe in central Jakarta that day with the means and motive to carry out the murder.
Oustide court Mirnas father, Eddy Dermawan Salihin, hit out at the sentence and a deal struck with the Australian federal police (AFP) following Wongsos arrest in January.
The AFP only agreed to assist with the police investigation on the proviso that the death penalty would not be sought or carried out. Were it not for the agreement, he said, Wongso could have been sentenced to death.

Considering Indonesia executes drug dealers, this chick got off easy with only 20 years for premediated murder.
A whole 20 years huh?
Wow.
That gives her plenty of time to commit more murders.
Had to look to make sure. Wayan Mirna Salihin was female, as well. She and the perp looked pretty friendly in some of the pictures, but the victim also seemed to have a male friend, as well. So it’s not clear how things really were amongst the various folks involved.
20 years in an Indonesian prison probably isn’t going to be fun. You’d think Australians would have more sense than to go to Indonesia to commit their crimes.
“20 years in an Indonesian prison probably isnt going to be fun.”
Now that, I think, is a very true statement.
I have seen some episodes of Locked Up Abroad, which make me never want to do time in other countries.
Not that I want to do time anywhere, but just sayin’.
:(
Oh, I dunno. She’s kinda cute, and a guy could take her to Starbucks for a first date....
oh hell yeah!
I’d do that..!
No one here mentions love triangle. I firmly believe that if the ‘other’ is a man between 2 lesbos it’s REALLY bad. My ex’s friends didn’t like me at all! My ex was non-discriminating-liked everyone. Her ‘friends’ may have ‘liked her too much.’
