National American Beer Day is observed annually by beer drinkers across the nation on October 27.
There are more than 2,100 breweries that manufacture beer in the United States. They range in size from industry giants to brew pubs and microbreweries. The U.S. produced 196 million barrels of beer in 2009. The U.S. consumes roughly 20 US gallons of beer per capita annually.
In 2008, the United States was ranked sixteenth in the world in per capita consumption, while total consumption was second only to China.
Prohibition in the early twentieth century caused nearly all American breweries to close.
After prohibition was repealed the industry had consolidated into a small number of large-scale breweries.
The majority of the new breweries in the U.S. are small breweries and brewpubs, who, as members of the Brewers Association, are termed craft breweries to differentiate them from the larger and older breweries.
The most common style of beer produced by the big breweries is American lager.
Most of the smaller breweries, which were founded in the 1980s, produce a range of styles.
Beer styles originating in the United States include: American pale ale, Pennsylvania porter, American IPA, steam beer, amber ale, cream ale and Cascadian dark ale.

It was like an Irish Bar Mitzvah! (I was ten years old) instantly from boy to man... HA!
I remember getting a drink of beer as a really small kid, and instantly spitting it out. The next time I tried it, I was about 15...partying with some friends...still hated it.
I grew to like beer and I absolutely love that there are so many choices now for really great beer.
I was halfway through college before I actually developed a taste for it.
......and at some point considered it food?.....lol
Ever watch the HISTORY OF BEER on the History channel? Pretty much there wont be America without beer.
The colonialists were always meeting at taverns and planned their moves against the Brits.,,while getting buzzed. America dude.
My Mom caught me going into the garbage for Dad’s cans of beer and swilling the leftover drops. I was 3. She was horrified. I didn’t touch beer for years afterward. Maybe two of them.
IDK ‘American’ is that regional market?

Nice label but the beer sucks
Good to know!
Having a Colorado Native Golden Lager.
American is the budget-priced brand produced by Pittsburgh Brewing (makers of Iron City).
It used to come in that beautifully lithographed can.
Later they switched to one that made it look like the Official Beer of the Waffen SS.
