The University Town Center Mall in Sarasota, Florida, has issued a very specific directive:
"For choral groups, the Mall prefers no clearly recognizable Christian music, such as carols sung in English, spirituals or gospel."
In a memo sent out to area groups who are normally invited to perform seasonal music, the upscale shopping mall leaders have in effect banned any music that could be recognized as "Christian." . . . . . . .

Boycott time.
Sounds like a boycott of the shopping center should be organized. The tenants will scream and sue the landlord.
Not the smartest marketing move.
OMG
And reading of poems by Maya Angelou.
I hope this makes a lot of news in Sarasota, and mall traffic dives.
Let’s have Christmas without Christ this year, shall we?
"How about Kwanzaa?"
"Sure, but you don't look like a young white female elementary school teacher."
How about banning Christmas, Christmas trees, Santa Claus. Better yet don’t shop there. This is a time to boycott and protest. Don’t shop there. Don’t these stupid people get it?
That would be SO anti-Christmas! I start yawning just THINKING of his so-called music.
I wonder if the ban will include the “Christian Music” of a self proclaimed lesbian (after the fact)?
Jennifer Knapp “Faithful to Me”
All the chistles I’ve dulled carving idols of stone
That have crumbled like sand ‘neath the waves.
I’ve recklessly built all my dreams in the sand just to watch, them all wash away.
Through another day, another trial, another chance to reconcile
To one who sees past all I see.
And reaching out my weary hand I pray that you’d understand
You’re the only one who’s faithful to me.
All the pennies I’ve wasted in my wishing well
I have thrown like stones to the sea.
I have cast my lots, dropped my guard, searched aimlessly for a faith
To be faithful to me.
Through another day, another trial, another chance to reconcile
To one who sees past all I see.
And reaching out my weary hand I pray that you’d understand
You’re the only one who’s faithful to me.
You’re the only one who’s faithful to me.

I love Phillip Glass, and think he should have gotten a Nobel, not Boring Bob Dylan. However Phillip’s genre is best suited for Halloween or perhaps Easter, due to it’s darkly intricate dirges and sky-high drama content.
In other words, you would not use Tubular Bells (Oldfield) and call it Christmas Music, cause it just ain’t so.
If I’m going to subvert the true meaning of Christ’s birth via commercialism and over-consumption then I darn sure want Christmas music playing while I do it.
Lol. You're 100% correct. I had forgotten about her.
THANK GOODNESS I don't have total recall. I would have gotten a lobotomy eons ago.
Then we’ll have to stop calling it CHRISTmas
I may have missed it in the article, but is there an “or else” attached to the directive?
To address your question Maudeen, this country is already on borrowed time and we’re playing the spiritual equivalent of Russian Roulette, if I can put it that way.
How insulted Jesus must be.
OMG
And reading of poems by Maya Angelou.

Quite possibly the worst poet who ever drew breath.
Local shoppers should call them and tell them they will not shop there if they are anti-Christmas or trying to be politically correct rubbish.
I "googled" a Kwanzaa song and got this. Geez.
