I was 7 years old when one day in October of 1945 I noticed a lot of cars parking in our quiet neighborhood. They would come for a couple days, and then, suddenly, they would disappear, only to return a couple days later. We kids appropriated a few spaces in frontt of our respective houses and directed cars into the spaces. The drivers would typically give us a dime to “watch” their cars. It only was years later that I realized the people were parking about 1.5 miles from Wrigley Field, to which they would walk, where the Cubs were playing their last World Series against the Detroit Tigers.
Thank you for sharing that wonderful memory.
