To: Stop the decline
You have to wonder about how painful it must have been for him when a lot of those folks, whom he'd been hobnobbing with for years, turned their backs on him when he became a Republican candidate. I wonder also how it must have been for him as a young man with some in that set, given that his family wasn't old money by any means.

He brought it to them and shamed them for their hypocrisy. This will not be over when the election is over, even if he loses.

Well put, thx. He’s learned a lot about many people he’s known, sadly. He likely has a lot more connection now to everyday working folks. I don’t think he tolerates two-faced players much any more, and has learned there’s a whole lot of them. Many were in that room tonight.

I don’t think those who’ve turned on him who were in that room were from “old money,” either. The “old money” in NYC doesn’t generally go to the Alfred E Smith Memorial Dinner.
