If you can get kitty’s attention, try giving her a slow blink. It’s body language that says “all is well, I like you,” and works like a charm.

Cats sleep,alot.
Here mine falls asleep sitting up.
They are not slow blinking they are trying to stay awake.
Bottom line if they are comfortable falling asleep around you then your cool with them.
This little one wont sit long enough for the original poster to even try this approach.
Its too scared. Accept it.
Also agree with another poster.
Cats live by sight and smell.This new one smells the old one everywhere and is afraid its soon to get its ass kicked when it shows up.
Way too much psychoanalyzing cats here IMO.
Cats don’t care about anything other than eating and staying alive.
Put out food, close off dangerous hiding spaces like behind cellar walls and leave the damn thing alone.
If it comes a round fine.If not, its not a good pet so get rid of it.
