The Ouija board came out in 1928.

In the factory, they would be making them, not using them.

When my sister was in college, some girls were playing with a Ouija board, and got a cold spot in their room. One of the Jesuits came and sprinkled some holy water around, and read them the riot act.

Conceivably you could make your own Ouija board with some cardboard and a pen. Or simply print one out.

Basic design was patented as a toy in 1891, but "talking boards" and automatic writing have been around for centuries and in a wide range of cultures.
