That would be my guess.
When I marry it will not be posh, for my clan is not wasteful as a rule. May there be many children attending, and none mine.
I'm saving them for the funeral.
My wedding was simple, but elegant. I didn't think it was all that expensive, it certainly wasn't a "destination wedding". We all ate well, and (for the family, not Mrs WBill and I) wound up becoming a week-long party. It was also the last time that my grandparent's generation all got together for anything. They've all since passed.
So....all these years later, what do people talk about? How beautiful the location was (no) or the bride's dress (no) or whether or not the flowers precisely matched the napkins on the table (hahaha)? Nope, they talk about the people who were there, who they saw - in some cases - for the first time and/or the last time.
