How are you going to serve someone if you only understand English and they try speaking something else?
You don’t.
When I’m in foreign country I damn well make every effort I can to be at least passable in the local language. And that includes when I order food/beverages.
And for the lazy/brain dead, Google Translate does a pretty good job.
