Trump has actually been a practicing Christian for many years. Sorry, too busy to pull up a link, but the “Trump just recently started to pretend being Christian” meme is just more LSM propaganda.
I believe there is a difference between Mainline “Christianity” and Evangelical Christianity.
The mainline churches do not necessarily even believe in a hell or that Jesus is really God, or in the infallibility of the Word of God, the Bible.
In my experience, they do not lay out the real road to salvation.
Donald Trump grew up in one of those mainline churches.
Norman Vincent Peale (The Power of Positive Thinking) was the pastor. This gave Donald a wonderful outlook on life, but hardly communicated what each person needs to do in order to be saved.
I do believe Dr. Dobson when he revealed that when one of the pastors at that big meeting they had, actually presented the Gospel plan of Salvation, he did indeed ask Christ into his life, and became a born-again Christian at that time.
Of course, none of us really knows actual facts and thus, we choose to believe whatever narrative we wish : )
