Volunteer football coach dismissed for making boy run laps after he bullied teammate
The Washington Post ^ | 10/7 | Travis Andrews

Anyone who has spent any time on the gridiron — even at a young age — likely knows the typical punishments a coach will dole out if his rules aren’t followed.

There are “suicides,” a grueling running exercise in which participants have to run to the 20-yard line, touch it, then run back to the end zone (then the 30, then the 40, etc.).

That’s what we did—but there were only five of us.

What is a “snack list”?

Like I said around here they all get trophies. The A B and C teams. The A team would be kids in about the 5-6th grade. All those kids got them. Even the cheerleaders.

Youth tackle football only has a few years left. I would guess that many Jr. High and High Schools will give up the sport in the coming decade or so. It will take years but this sport will wither on the vine slowly but surely. Tackle football is the new smoking.

At the younger ages, the “Team Mom” used to organize a snack list. One mom per game to provide juice boxes and donuts/chips for after the game.

This morphed into a more mature provision of cut up oranges or grapes for a quick half time boost.

Typical Washington Post commenters trying to infer that where this happened is a “Conservative” area.

BS - Durham Connecticut is 57% democrat 41% republican. That’s hardly “Conservative” unless you are comparing it to Havanna.

That’s why you’re here

My wife hates this crap too

But man the crap we deal with

Just two incidents recently

Someone drew a swastika on a bathroom wall with no verbiage

They went nuts and knowing my then 14 year old is a righty they grilled him and the in house cop grilling him

A fat female cop of course....I don’t really blame her she doesn’t know any better

Flash forward to last week with class pictures and my nine year old who plays basketball gave a Sean Curry victory sign and they freaked out that he was signaling a gun

A bunch of hysterical women and I’m in the mid south although our area is half northerners at least

He was barred from the pic and threatened with out of school suspension

He’s a meek awkward gangly 9 year old

It’s the fearfulness of women manifesting itself in trying lot mold our man children

And it’s worked

Just look around at millennial men

On the other hand there are women fight this like my wife and mother to five

She went down there grabbed the principal and the teacher got smacked down big time and they retook the pic

Palinesque

On the swastika....my soon knew who did it but refused to rat

But all over symbolism

It’s ridiculous

Private schools which can cost 24,000 a year here are barely better and often worse with ninniness

You pay for who your kids go to school with to be honest

And I did it with one

Sadly, I agree.
I always thought one of the main reasons for American's dominance on the battlefield was due to high school football. It teaches teamwork, strategy, toughness, and following orders.

As a former youth coach in various sports I wouldn’t coach these special snowflakes today for love nor money.

I gave up due to the Alpha Hotel parents back in the mid 70s. Just wasn't worth it anymore.

Make the offender sweat and think. This was a classic, time tested, proven character building exercise.

Not to mention valuable conditioning. A little extra training doesn't hurt.

I am no fan of the youth football programs in my area. Didn’t have my boys play. That said I am all in favor of those who want participate.

For hockey
“gassers” aka ladders-. Standing on goal line: Blueline back, red line back, far blue line back, goal line back. Throw in the stopwatch and skating backwards for variety

Boards i.e. across and back and you had to touch the boards, “make snow”,full stop and hop. and
Crossover circles: cross over skate around all face off circles. Backward, forward and stopwatch added additional variety

Somewhere Vince Lombardi is in heaven scowling wishing he could make us all run “grass drills”. (That’s what we called them in Jr High & High School football.)

Why do we all need to be made to run “grass drills” because we have allowed this “crap thinking” (If you can call it thinking!)to infect the nation!

The coaches sin was to not follow the approved progressive bullying indoctrination protocol....

He made the kid run laps instead of shaming him in front of his peers...

Never did hear tell of the likes. I guess having a concession stand that sold hot dogs, chips and soda that further helped the kids game was out of the question. This is what we had. The hot dogs were not too bad and depending on who made the chili that week the hot dogs sold out.
